Menu bar item 'Infrastructure...'

If a railML-file containing infrastructure data is opened, the menu item 'Infrastructure…' will be activated in the control window. By pressing the button 'Infrastructure…' the corresponding dialogue in the control window will open. A more detailed description of the settings options for the display of the infrastructure data in the application window can be found in the chapters 'Selection of the infrastructure area' and 'Selection of the display'.

Control and application window 'Infrastructure...' after opening a railML-file

Selection of the infrastructure area

Selection of the displayed infrastructure according to operational points or tracks

In order to evaluate the infrastructure subschema data of the opened railML-file in detail it is necessary to select by 'Track' , 'Operational point' or 'Net' in advance.

Selection of a sequence of tracks

Infrastructure area "Track"

If the selection of the displayed data shall take place according to 'Track' , select the corresponding button in the menu. The button is activated, when it is colored in a darker gray. The user is required to select the exact track by using direct entry or the dropdown menu in the input field, which is located underneath the button. By entering the first letter of a track name the selection list, which will then be reduced to only the relevant entries (case sensitive), will drop down automatically. After the selection of a track a second input field will be added automatically. In this all neighboring tracks can be entered directly or selected from the drop down menu. If more than one track is selected, solely neighboring tracks will be suggested that are situated in the implicitly chosen direction. The selection option of the neighboring tracks finishes, if no further neighboring tracks are found. As soon as the user has selected the railML-data by specific tracks, he will have to define the way of displaying the infrastructure data. An overview of the existing possibilities to display the content of the infrastructure subschema - in form of topology, map or table - are explained in the chapter 'Selection of the display'.

Selection of a sequence of operational points

Infrastructure area "Operational point"

If the selection of the displayed data shall take place according to 'Operational point' , select the corresponding button in the menu. The button is activated, when it is colored in a darker gray. The user is required to select the exact operational point sequence by using direct entry or the dropdown menu in the input field, which is located underneath the button. By entering the first letter of an operational point name the selection list, which will then be reduced to only the relevant entries (case sensitive), will drop down automatically. After the selection of an operational point a second input field will be added automatically in which only the neighboring operational points will be suggested, as long as they are connected to the selected operational point. If more than one operational point is selected, solely neighboring operational points will be suggested that are situated in the implicitly chosen direction. The selection option of the neighboring operational points finishes, if the next turn out is reached and/or no further neighboring operational points are found. In order to create a topographical/topological view in the application window, at least two operational points must be selected. As soon as the user has selected the railML-data by specific operational points, he will have to define the way of displaying the infrastructure data. An overview of the existing possibilities to display the content of the infrastructure subschema - in form of topology, map or table - are explained in the chapter 'Selection of the display'.

Auswahl

Infrastructure area "Net"

If the selection of the displayed data shall take place according to 'Net' , select the corresponding button in the menu. The button is activated, when it is coloured in a darker gray. In case of a selection according to 'Net' the infrastructure data, which is contained in the xml-file will be displayed entirely. A selection will not take place. As a second step the user has to define the way of displaying the infrastructure data. An overview of the existing possibilities to display the content of the infrastructure subschema - in form of topology, map or table - are explained in the chapter 'Selection of the display'.

Selection of the display

Auswahl des Hintergrundes nach 'Internet-Karte' oder 'Zeichnung'

After successfully selecting operational points or tracks from the infrastructure data the user must decide how the data shall be displayed in the application window in a subsequent step. At this point the software railVIVID offers up to three possible display modes. The user can choose to display the information in topological, (Button ' Topology '), topographic (Button ' Map ') or tabular form. After the selection of a display option the adjacent application windows opens and the selected button in the control window becomes insensitive. Basically the user can open up to three windows displaying the selected data in the different display modes.

If the user wishes to display the whole network (Button ' Net ' active) the display modes are reduced to the display in map view. Both buttons ' Topology ' and ' Tabular ' will be insensitive if no tracks nor operational points are selected. Due to the unstructured amount of data the display in topologic and tabular form is not possible.

The fundamental functions and features of the three display modes are explained in the following.

Display mode "Topology"

Shall the selected infrastructure data be displayed according to the 'Topology' mode the user has to select the corresponding button. The activation of the button is shown by the darker grey colour of the button. Simultaneously a new application window, showing the desired data in topology mode, is opened next to the control window. The following attributes are part of the topology display:

  • maximum speed in direction of travel
  • maximum speed in opposite direction
  • train protection in direction of travel
  • train protecting in opposite direction
  • electrification
  • height
  • gradient
  • radius

Display mode "Map"

Shall the selected infrastructure data be displayed according to the 'Map' mode the user has to select the corresponding button. The activation of the button is shown by the darker grey colour of the button. Simultanously a new application window, showing the desired data in map mode, is opened next to the control window. If no internet connection is available the selected sequence of operational points or tracks will be displayed without a topographic map in the background.

Display mode "Tabular"

Shall the selected infrastructure data be displayed according to the 'Tabular' mode the user has to select the corresponding button. The activation of the button is shown by the darker grey colour of the button. Simultanously a new application window, showing the desired data in tabular mode, is opened next to the control window. The following attributes are part of the tabular display:

  • element
  • absolute position
  • position
  • direction
  • name
  • type
  • slope
  • radius
  • velocity
  • medium

Additive settings

Illustration 21: Menu '+ Settings'

With the help of the additive settings of this configuration menu the visual depiction of the topographic, topologic and graphical view of the selected tracks can be adjusted. More detailed information about this topic can be found in the chapter 'Application window Infrastructure' .

By selecting the button '+ Settings' the user is able to configure the visual depiction according to the following points:

When pressing the button '+ Settings' a menu opens that allows the user to select and integrate the desired configuration dialogue. If the integrated configuration dialogue shall be deactivated, click on the bin item on the right hand side.

Element selection

Selection of the parameters for the topographic / topologic view

With the help of the configuration dialogue 'Element selection' the user is able to display the selected track or operational points in the topologic / map view of the application window. Basically all parameters can be configured in this menu. Nevertheless only parameters that are contained in the opened railML-file, will be displayed.

The display of subsequently further specified parameters can be effective in direction of travel or in opposite direction according to the equivalent buttons. The activation of a button is shown with a darker grey colour. When deactivating the colour of the button will switch back to the previous lighter grey.

•                                  means forth direction (increasing track chainage)
•                                  means back direction (decreasing track chainage)

The following diagram parts can be influenced by the selection:

Topolgy ...
Track elements                           ...
Operation and control elements ...

The implementation of all changes in the configuration catalogue 'Element selection' takes place immediately.

Background colour

Modification of background colour

With the help of the configuration dialogue 'Background colour' the user is able to change the background colour of the topographic / topologic view in the application window.

•        Background colour                           is used for the background colour of the view
•        Text colour is used for the colour of the texts and lines

The desired colour can be chosen as a predefined colour with the help of a colour palette or by specification with 'Custom colour...' .

Birne.png Tip: Please adjust colours carefully. Texts and lines can "vanish" if they have the same colour as the background.

The implementation of all changes in the configuration catalogue 'Background colour' takes place immediately.

Colours in map

Adjustemnt of the track colour in accordance to defined parameters

With the help of the configuration dialogue 'Colours in map' the user is able to configure the colour of a track in accordance to the existence of a certain track feature and visualize it in the geographical view of the application window.

The determination of the presentation of a track takes place by a colour definition of the following categories and the including parameters:

•        Electrification
•        Train protection system
•        Maximum speed

Selection of a parameter according to the track feature

By selecting the button of the desired section a new configuration line will be added. With the help of this configuration line the desired parameter can be chosen out of a list with predefined values of the railML schema. The selection of the colour in which the affected track sections shall be displayed, takes place afterwards. The desired colour can be chosen as a predefined colour with the help of a colour palette or by specification with 'Custom colour...' .

This process can be reiterated until all parameters of a section are defined. If the user wants to deselected an already chosen configuration dialogue and with it its consideration, select the dustbin button.

Birne.png Tip: In the geographic view the most recently selected colour will be displayed even when other colour configurations are in use.

The implementation of all changes in the configuration catalogue 'Colours in map' takes place immediately.

Change direction

Change of direction in topographic / topologic view

With the help of the configuration dialogue 'Change direction' the user is able to change the direction of the selected track or the operational point order in the topographic / topologic view in the application window. Depending on the configuration the displayed direction of the selected track can therefore be changed:

A → B        shows a display of the selection from left to right
B ← A        shows a display of the selection in reverse order, from right to left

The implementation of all changes in the configuration catalogue 'Change direction' takes place immediately.

Map provider

Selection of map provider

With the help of the configuration dialogue 'Map provider' the user is able to define the provider of the topographic map, which shows the geographic view of the selected track in the application window. Currently the two following providers can be selected:

•        Google
•        OpenStreetMap

The implementation of all changes in the configuration catalogue 'Map provider' takes place immediately.

Register

Selection of the country specific operational point database

Particular company and country specific databases define clear abbreviations for operational points of a track. With the help of the configuration dialogue 'Register' the user is able to choose these abbreviations as long as they are contained in the railML-file and display them in the topographic / topologic view in the application window. E.g. every operational point of the German train network can be abbreviated with a specific abbreviation from the operational point database "Ril 100". All abbreviations are displayed at the bottom of the topographic / topologic view beside the train station name and kilometre display. If more than one abbreviation is available in the railML file for one operational point the abbreviation belonging to the selected database will be displayed. If no abbreviation, according to the database, is available in the railML file a second abbreviation will be shown.

The implementation of all changes in the configuration catalogue 'Register' takes place immediately.

Scaling

Adjustment of the scaling / zoom in the topographic / topologic view

With the help of the configuration dialogue 'Scaling' the user is able to scale the selected track in the topographic / topologic view in the application window. This is done by a horizontal scroll bar:

• "Zoom in" by moving the controller in the direction of + (to the right).
• "Zoom out" by moving the controller in the direction of (to the left).

The implementation of all changes in the configuration catalogue 'Scaling' takes place immediately.

Symbol type

Modification of symbol type

With the help of the configuration dialogue 'Symbol type' the user is able to change the display symbol type of a selected track in the geographic view in the application window. The displayed symbol type can be switched to:

•        Symbol                           for displaying little symbols for selected track elements in the map.
•        Colour for displaying little coloured squares for selected track elements in the map.

Please take note that all implementations of changes in the configuration dialogue 'Symbol type' do not take place immediately. In order to implement the settings a second click on Show data is necessary.
